What a Monday.

Well, as the song goes, it’s just another manic Monday. Ouch. That was corny.

As you can see, the blog has gotten a makeover! I recently got some design work done by the wonderful Donnell Gray, whom I used to go to high school with! She is amazingly talented in both design and photography! Check her out here. Besides the banner, above, here is a sneak peek of my new, beautiful logo!

I am so proud of this bad boy! I’m working with someone to make it into a stamp! How exciting.

In other news, school has stared, thus begins the spiral into procrastination. I really should be doing some reading. Is it bad that it’s only day two of class for me and I’m not feeling it?

Despite being motivated on the school front, I have really been kicking creative bootay. I would like to say I’m 1/3 the way don’t with a new knitted neck-warmer, and oh yea, I made my FIRST SALE on Etsy! And I made a pillow for a wondeful coworker, and she said another person wants one too! Woo hoo!

And that’s all for now. I’m getting so excited for what all will come this year.

To look forward to.

With a productive day off of work, I wrap up my day (by 10:30 p.m.? Can it really be?) feeling super accomplished, inspired, and anxious.

With some cleaning done and a sewing project started, see the preview below, I feel like I can really take a step towards my resolutions.

Custom pocket to fit my new, beautiful wallet from Fancy Tiger (the clothing boutique).

For 2011, I have many commitments I want to make, and keep:

Get healthy. This is almost a too obvious considering the usual resolutions, but my not only is concerning working out, but also eating healthier. This means more cooking, an adventure in itself for me. Stay tuned for kitchen endeavors.

Get creative. Today I read a ton of artistic and creative blogs, and my mind is spinning about the projects I want to get accomplished this year. Not only for Lilly Ella Collections, but for my self. After an exhaustive month (it really was only a month?) working solely towards my store, and not feeling 100% confident about it at this moment, I have realized how important it is to use creative energy to give back to yourself and loved ones. It is really rewarding.

Become involved. There are so many good causes out there, and I have really want to devote some of my time to them! More to come on this later.

Learn new crafts. I cannot wait to see how this turns out. SO exciting/scary! Knitting? Here I come.

Be ecofriendly. This is something I’m really passionate about, and I want to devote myself to Earth-friendly options, from cleaning products, to clothing, to the way I live my life.

Cease to waste my free time. Curse you, reality t.v.! Today I nearly spent the entire day with the tube off, and it felt great! I got so much accomplished, and I don’t really care that I missed those shows. I can’t believe how much of my time is spent in front of the television. It’s time to get out and do something!

Get my college degree! Last semester. The home stretch. Deep breath.

I feel like this is a solid list, and if I can stick to it, this could be the best year yet.

What do you have planned this year?

Ready, set, (holding breath). Anxiety.

I absolutely hate anxiety. I participated in track in high school, and my race running career was short-lived for several reasons.

  1. Let’s face it: I’m not a fast runner. Turns out to be pretty crucial.
  2. That five second interval that one must wait for the gun to fire, to signal the beginning of the race was absolutely overwhelming to me. I can’t stand that type of anticipation!
  3. I’m not athletic. Turns out that is pretty crucial too.

Anyways, to get to my point, I’ve had a fairly successful week in terms of getting some pillows made, and now, I’m just waiting!

I’ve done tons of research involving Etsy and from that I’ve gathered that new sellers need to be patient. So please, will me the power of patience, hehe! So to bide the time until someone finds me and loves my pillows as much as I do…I will continue to gather beautiful fabric, and keep making pillows to my heart’s content.

In other developments, I have began to find eco-friendly alternatives in both my fabric choices and the actual pillow inserts. I purchased some Organic fabric, designed by Cloud 9 Fabrics, from no other store than the amazing Fancy Tiger! As for the pillows, I’ve ordered some from an online store that are made from corn, and I’m looking into a bamboo alternative. This is really exciting, because I thought this was more of a long-term goal, and I’m so glad to venture into this area so soon!

I really want to let everyone know how much I appreciate you supporting me. My family and my friends have really been amazing, and I have really been relying on you all for support! I heart you so much!

As for my anxiety, it will hopefully subside soon. It is definitely magnified this week, because of finals! Gag. One more week. One. More. Week. Then I will have ample time to focus on Lilly Ella Collections!

Bless you for being here.

I am just full of updates.

Well, the past two days, I have been super busy, working all hours into the night, and I have finally listed two items. I feel like this process will only get easier from here, and, sigh, I’m relieved.

I am so happy to finally have them up, and can’t wait to make more, and also start brainstorming on other projects that will fit in well with Lilly Ella Collections.

Stay tuned and don’t forget the coupon codes!

Zippers are to me as Kryptonite is to Superman. So far.

Well, for me, it was a rather difficult and disappointing Thanksgiving break in regards to my advancement for Lilly Ella Collections.

After sorting out a few kinks in my process, I’m back at pushing towards my new deadline I’ve set for myself. By December 25th, I plan on having items listed in my shop– lillyellacollections.etsy.com — and I’m about a third of the way there.

I’ve decided that frustration will not overtake me. Some things I have struggled with are pretty major in regards to the whole outlook for the shop.

First and foremost, the Pfaff and I were instant enemies. Right from the beginning, it was a rough start. I did a few practice stitches after setting up the machine, and everything seemed to be fine–on the surface. I felt comfortable enough to begin sewing on my beautiful fabric I raved about in the previous post, but no sooner than I went about an inch, it began tearing through it faster than I could even realize it was swallowing it down by the bobbin! After fumbling with the bobbin, the needle, the settings, and pretty much everything else I could think of, I was near meltdown mode. I enlisted the help of my sweetheart husband, even though he has no experience with sewing machines, and we tried for about two hours with no avail. Penelope knows exactly how to express how I felt: Eventually I decided that my grandmother (who owns the Pfaff) would know better how to fix it or what was wrong. I returned it. So, I was sewing machine-less again. But only for a day.

My sister-in-law kindly lent me her Brother CS-6000i, which was still in the box brand new. I got the honor of opening it up and making the first stitch. And it works great! I love it so much I’ve added one of my own to my Christmas list, which is very long, by the way, ever since I discovered Etsy.

The beauty herself (and you can pretty much see my entire “studio” aka the kitchen table)! So, to continue on with my sob story of frustration. I’ll make it quick and painless for you, don’t worry. I wouldn’t want to put anyone through the simply infuriating sensation that the next topic has brought upon me. Zippers. Simply said, I pretty much suck at them. In all the sewing lessons of the past, they have never been included. And they should have been. I have really tried, grumbled, ripped seams, tried, grumbled, ripped seams, and tried again. The end product is merely acceptable at this point, and until I can get some more practice, they won’t be included in my designs.

But on the upside, I really did learn at lot in the past week. And I have become reacquainted with the sewing machine, and I have developed a solid design for a 16 X 16 pillow. Now that mostly everything has worked itself out, I feel like I may be pretty much unstoppable.

Look out world.

Holy inspiration!

So, Friday (yesterday,) I had the day off. I had big plans for yesterday. Big ones. Most didn’t happen. Yes, I did do an online post for my philosophy class, but the 200+ pages that were to be read of Thomas Hardy? Nope. The compelling question essay for ENGL 4580? Nope.

But, I would like to think I did some hardcore researching for Lilly Ella Collections. This research consists of browsing Etsy, and eventually getting distracted by other blogs that branch from their blog. (Blogs are awesome. Mine’s not, yet, anyways…working on it). However random and time-wasting this may seem, I actually benefited greatly from it.

First and foremost, I discovered:

1. Fancy Tiger!

Fancy Tiger is a local craft and fabric shop off Ellsworth and Broadway and in short, is mindblowingly amazing. I love the feel of this shop! Their fabric collection is absolutely amazing, and I just feel so inspired by the whole idea of this shop. Here is a sneak peak of some fabric I got:

I'm in love. Period.

Ryan and I made a quick trip down there, and my only regret is that we didn’t have enough time to spend there! I have a feeling I will become increasingly acquainted with this glorious treasure very soon!

Now for the other benefits of my web-surfing.

2. Wholesale opportunities.

I have looked into some wholesale outlets for organic hand dyed fabrics, because I think there is more of a possibility for profit for Lilly Ella Collections if I buy wholesale. Plus, I found some more mindblowingly  beautiful fabrics. More to come on this later.

Last and not least:

3. Inspiration.

Through my browsing and shopping, I have developed at least three new designs for pillows! Woo Hoo! It is easy to be creative when the mind is introduced to so many creative ideas and places!

All in all, my seemingly unaccomplished day (in terms of un-fun stuff) really transformed into a rewarding day for Lilly Ella Collections.

Now I just need to get my hands on that sewing machine before my mind explodes from all these ideas!

See you soon!
